Do I need an internet connection?
No. McSync works on your Mac and is not even allowed online — the app does not have the entitlement. Only buying the full version goes through the App Store, that is through macOS and Apple.
Could I delete my photos by accident?
Only what you selected is deleted, and the proposal McSync makes never does anything but copy. Before the start, a dialogue counts up what will happen. And whatever does go sits in your Mac's Trash — that is where you get it back.
What happens if the power goes out mid-copy?
Then the file is missing at the destination, but there is no half file lying there. McSync writes every file completely and only then puts it in place. The next run simply takes it along.
Is syncing the same as a backup?
No — and that is an important difference. A sync makes two folders equal; if you delete a file and then sync, it is gone on both sides. A backup also keeps older states. For photos the fill up task is the safer choice: it never deletes or replaces. Keep your own backup regardless: BG BizGames accepts no liability for lost data (terms of use).
Does McSync recognise renamed files?
No. McSync looks at name and place. A renamed file looks like a new one to it, and the old name like a spare. If you rename a lot, fill up serves you better — then both simply stay.
Why does McSync ask for a folder I already chose?
Because macOS only lets programs near folders you explicitly show them. McSync remembers that permission. If the drive is not attached, or the folder moved, you have to pick it once more.
How many folders are free?
Five places across all boards — enough for two drives and a NAS. Connections, plans and logs are never limited, and whatever you already created is kept in any case.
What is the difference between keeping equal and filling up?
Keeping equal makes both sides identical and may replace and delete to do it. Filling up only adds what is missing and leaves everything else alone.
Which Mac do I need?
A Mac running macOS 26.5 or newer. McSync is for the Mac only, not for iPhone, iPad or Windows.
