2. This website

This website consists of static files. It sets no cookies, uses no analytics or tracking tools and loads no third-party content — no fonts, no third-party scripts, no videos embedded from YouTube, Vimeo or a similar service. There is therefore no consent to obtain and no cookie notice.

The videos and the one script

A few pages carry short videos showing McSync at work. They are stored at the same address as the page itself, not at a video service, so playing one opens no connection to a third party. One script of our own (media.js) starts a video only once it is visible on screen and pauses it as soon as it leaves the view — which saves you the transfer. That script loads nothing further, stores nothing and transmits nothing. Without JavaScript the preview image stays in place and you can start the video by hand.

Hosting and server logs

The site is delivered via Amazon Web Services (Amazon S3 and Amazon CloudFront). When a page is requested, the service processes technically necessary connection data, in particular the IP address, date and time, the address requested and details of browser and operating system. Without that processing a page cannot be delivered. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in the secure and stable operation of the website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). We do not use this data to identify you and do not combine it with other data.

A data processing agreement under Art. 28 GDPR is in place with Amazon Web Services. The files are stored in the Frankfurt region (eu-central-1). Delivery, however, runs through a worldwide network of edge locations, which is why connection data may also be processed outside the EU. Amazon Web Services, Inc. participates in the EU-US Data Privacy Framework; for transfers to other third countries the European Commission's standard contractual clauses apply (Art. 45 and Art. 46 GDPR respectively).

Connection data is processed only for as long as delivery and the defence against technical attacks require. There is no analysis of usage behaviour, no automated decision-making and no profiling.

3. The McSync app

What stays on your Mac

Boards, locations, connections, saved plans, settings and logs live solely in the app's sandbox under ~/Library/Containers/bizgames.McSync. Those files contain the names and paths of the folders you chose as well as the file lists of comparisons and runs. They do not leave your Mac; a backup of your Mac takes them along.

Access to folders

McSync is sandboxed and is granted access only to folders you select yourself through the macOS open panel. That access is stored as a bookmark so it survives a restart. The app's entitlements are limited to exactly that: reading and writing files you selected, and keeping those bookmarks.

System APIs requiring a stated reason

Apple requires a declared purpose for some APIs. McSync uses three, and only locally:

• File modification date and size — that is the comparison itself.
• Free disk space — only in order to explain a failed copy.
• User defaults — window state such as the sidebar width.

The app's privacy manifest declares no data collection, and no tracking takes place.

Deleting

Files removed by McSync go to your Mac's Trash. They can be restored from there as long as the Trash has not been emptied.

Who is responsible for your files and their backup is not a question of data protection but of use: it is set out in the terms of use, points 7 and 8.

Notifications

On request McSync reports a finished run through a local notification. You grant permission to macOS; the notification is created on your Mac and is not sent through any server.

4. Purchasing the full version

The full version is unlocked as a one-time purchase through the Mac App Store. Apple is the seller and contractual partner for that purchase; payment is handled entirely through your Apple account. We receive no payment data from Apple. McSync only learns from the system whether a purchase was made and stores that fact locally. Apple's privacy policy applies to the processing in the App Store.

5. Your rights

You have the right to information, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection. Please use the contact details above. Since we process no personal data of yours through the app, in practice these rights concern correspondence with us and the server logs of the delivery.

You may also lodge a complaint with the supervisory authority: Austrian Data Protection Authority, Barichgasse 40-42, 1030 Vienna, www.dsb.gv.at.

6. Changes

If the app or this website changes in a way that affects processing, this policy will be updated. The date is below.
