McSync
Three steps to
your second copy
No setup, no wizard. What you need: two folders and two minutes.

Drag the two folders in
Open the board and drag the first folder from the Finder onto it — your pictures, say. Then the second one, the one on the external drive. Both sit there as tiles now. Give them names you will recognise.

Connect them and have a look
Draw a line from one tile to the other and choose Have a look. McSync reads both sides and colours the line: green means equal, red means differences. Below it says how many files are involved. Nothing has been changed so far.

Let go
Click the caption and you see the list. The proposal is already in it, and it only copies. If it suits you, hit start — one last dialogue counts up what will happen, and then you get to watch.
The first time, really just have a look. Seeing the list once before anything is written takes away all the uncertainty — and you quickly notice the folders are less different than you feared.
And the important part: a sync is not a backup. Delete a file and then sync, and it is lost on both sides. So keep your own independent backup of your data — especially before tasks that replace or delete. BG BizGames accepts no liability for lost data; the details are in the terms of use.
When you want more
- Fill up instead of keeping equal. Nothing is ever replaced or deleted that way — the calmest route for a photo archive.
- Attach the drive first. Otherwise McSync cannot see the folder and will ask once.
- Save a decision. Once you have been through 3,000 files, save it as a plan and simply let it run in future.
- Create several boards. One for home, one for the office. That keeps each of them readable.
- Don't rush the end. If something is still running, McSync says so when you quit — an aborted run helps nobody.
